Our History
                  How it all happened ....

Learning Performance is an international network of educationalists and presenters who aim to demonstrate to students that learning, remembering, understanding and recalling information does not have to be a chore.  It began in Sydney, Australia in 1985 when John Dibley, who was director of student counselling at the University of Sydney, wrote and presented a four-day induction course to learning for new students.  This "Learning Performance Seminar" was very popular, and was presented to high school students across Australia during their summer holidays.

In 1992, John Dibley advertised a UK franchise of his company and Heather Starbuck, a dyslexia therapist and drama teacher, took it on.  Working with Roger Murray they presented the original Australian four-day and two-day holiday seminars to great success.  In 1994, a local school asked Heather to present a one-day 'in-house' version of the seminar.  Word quickly got out to other schools about this wonderful seminar, called Strategies for Success, and Heather became rather busy during term time!

In 1996 Heather asked friends Nikki Dingle, a teacher, and Kevin Hayes, an educational psychologist, to become freelance presenters for her.  They were only too happy to help, and nine years on still work for us regularly, along with our dedicated team of 75 freelance presenters who visit around half of all the secondary schools in Britain every year

Today Learning Performance is the UK's leading provider of study skills education in schools.  We offer a range of twenty programmes for secondary schools, including Heather's original Strategies for Success.  We offer programmes for primary schools, which has seen a 300% increase in bookings in the last year.  And we offer different programmes to teachers for in-service training and lesson plans on a range of different topics.  Our Creative Director, David Starbuck, has written a book for teachers called Creative Teaching: Getting It Right, which has been met with excellent reviews. And we are now also leading the way in the next big thing to happen in education, computer game-based learning, with our new product: Eduteams.
