OverviewPupils’ first attempt at playing a game usually goes wrong because of ineffective communication and a lack of strategy. In order to gain maximum benefit, it is vital to build in time for reflection and allow teams to devise new strategies and practise them in their next attempt. This reinforces learning at each attempt, and pupils can then relate these skills back to real life situations.
Because the games are learner centric, they have the added benefit of the learner instantly recognising the cause and outcome of their actions, and in turn, quickly being able to devise a strategy for improvement.
Teams are awarded points on the basis of time taken to complete the game and strategy chosen by the team. This is a useful guide for the teams to show progression and for motivation, allowing pupils to map their success through reflection.
