Learning Performance are pleased to present:
This is a practical, realistic and enjoyable INSET day, devised by Sue Cowley, author of numerous teaching books, including the best selling “Getting the Buggers to Behave”. During the day, an experienced trainer will work through Sue’s programme with your staff. The presenter will use a combination of training slides, practical demonstrations and group activities to help your staff examine, develop and improve their behaviour management skills. Schools can chose from a half day option (2 sessions), or a full day option (4 sessions). Sessions 1, 2 and 3 can be delivered in 1¼ or 1½ hours. Session 4 takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour. The sessions are as follows:
Session One: ‘Positive Teaching Styles’ > Getting the Basics Right > The Importance of Expectations > Verbal and Non Verbal Communication > Key Techniques and Strategies
Session Two: ‘The Positive Classroom’ > Creating a Positive Atmosphere > Making Rewards Work > Making Sanctions Work > Positive Use of Sanctions
Session Three: ‘The Positive Lesson’ > Positive Teaching Strategies > The Format of Lessons > The Content of Lessons > Engaging your Students > Devising Engaging Lessons
Session Four: ‘Staying Positive: When Things get Tough’ > Why do Confrontations Arise? > How to Avoid Confrontation > How to Deal with Confrontation > Managing Stress
It is important for schools to incorporate breaks between each session, so that staff are able to sustain their concentration. Typical timings for a full day might look like this:
09.00 – 10.15: Session One 10.45 – 12.00: Session Two 13.00 – 14.15: Session Three 14.45 – 15.30: Session Four
Sue Cowley is available, on a limited basis, to deliver her INSET programme in schools. Please contact Learning Performance for more details of her charges and availability.
